Tidligere Megadeth trommeslager Nick Menza (51) er død

Flere internasjonale medier bekrefter nå den triste meldingen om at tidligere medlem av heavy metal bandet Megadeth er død, kun 51 år gammel.
Nick Menza spilte i Megadeth i perioden 1989 – 1998 samt i 2004. Han deltar også på samtlige Megadeth album fra perioden «Rust In Peace» og t.o.m. «Cryptic Writings»(1997).

Nick Menza døde av hjerteinfarkt mens han spilte sammen med sitt nåværende band OHM på den intime club scenen Baked Potato i California.
Som sønn av jazzmusikeren Don Menza, begynte Nick å spille trommer i en alder av to år. Han er oppvokst med inspirasjon, innflytelse og ledelse av storheter som bl.a. Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd, Nick Ceroli, Jeff Porcaro og Louie Bellson. I begynnelsen av sin profesjonelle musikalske karriere i en alder av 18 spilte han trommer i bandet Rhoads sammen med sangeren Kelle Rhoads, bror av den avdøde Randy Rhoads. Foruten Megadeth har Nick Menza jobbet med en lang rekke band og artister gjennom årene.
Den nære venn og samarbeidspartner J Marshall Craig som hadde avtalt å hente Nick Menza på flyplassen i morgen (mandag 23.mai) og ha han som overnattingsgjest skriver dette på sine facebookside:
– I am deeply shocked to have to confirm these rumors and calls I’ve been getting since 2:30 a.m. today. My dearest friend and collaborator Nick Menza died last night while in the opening set with his band OHM in Los Angeles. I was to pick him up at Logan airport tomorrow afternoon for his planned stay at our home here in Plymouth. We, his friends, and family are all in utter shock,– J Marshall Craig
J. Marshall Craig har nå også blitt oppnevnt på vegne av Nick Menza sin nære familie (mor, far og hans to unge sønner) som offentlig talsperson og har nettopp publisert følgende melding via den offisielle facebook profilen til Menza:
– For friends & fans: Nick Menza was in musician heaven last month when I took him to Rose Lane Studio a few weeks back to meet Sjoerd Auke Koppert and Damion ‘Damizza’ Young and the team there. There were many plans in the works, for the release of Nick’s book that we wrote, a comic book version of his time with Megadeth and many, many other wonderful things, including a trip to stay with me and my family here in Cape Cod tomorrow. He died last night on stage in L.A. doing what he loved. I have been asked by his family to be their public representative though this tragic and difficult time, so will be fielding all press inquiries. His mother Rose and father Don ask for privacy and prayers for them, and Nick’s two young boys. News of a service, remembrance and celebration of Nick’s life and music will be announced in the days to come,– J. Marshall Craig
